Writing in the era of AI

Why write in a world dominated by videos and AI? My thoughts here.

This is a note — a rough, evolving thought. It may change or disappear.

Writing is something I’ve always enjoyed. I guess it’s a way for me and my brain to download ideas, thoughts, and crazy concepts.

Since I was young, I liked writing on paper, and then, of course, I moved to writing on the internet.

English is not my first language, which presents its own challenges, but I believe that taking the time to reflect on a topic and write a unique piece is important for us as humans.

What do I plan with this blog?

Simply put, I want to have my own little space on the internet where I can share what I’m doing or planning to do, in both my career and professional development as well as in my own personal journey.

A few days ago, I was talking to my kid (16 now) about the importance of reading and writing. He replied “why dad? isn’t the AI going to do all of that for us? Why do we need to keep writing when we can just dictate to AI to do something for us?… it’s pointless”.

A part of me thinks he might be right… Why should I spend hours a week writing and “downloading” my brain when I can simply create more AI slop or AI-generated content and put it out there?

I don’t know… I guess as we move further into the AI era, things that are basic and inherently human will gain more value. Just as we are willing to pay more for a handmade table or chair, reading from other humans might become important again.

I told my son that we are still human, and I thought AI would become much smarter, and many of us don’t write because there’s no other option; we read and write to make sense of our worlds. We do it so we can learn and internalise what it means to be human. What it means to have a brain that “needs” that exercise from time to time, and finally, we do it because it is the right thing to do. Our thinking becomes clearer, and our goals become more achievable whenever we do these things.

Here: to read and write more in the era of AI.
