About

Hello! I'm Mr. Gómez, or Cristian Gómez. More on the "Mr." in a minute.

I've spent close to twenty years helping large enterprises make sense of their data and, lately, their AI. My career took me from writing software in Chile to advising boards and engineering teams across Australia and Asia-Pacific, with stops at Snowflake, Tableau, ThoughtSpot and MicroStrategy along the way. Day to day, I sit in the rooms where big organisations decide how to actually deploy this stuff: the architecture, the governance, the operating model, the messy human part that determines whether any of it works.

That's what I write about here. Not the demo, but what happens after the demo. Systems that survive contact with reality: real users, real politics, real deadlines, real mess.

This site is called Bitácora, the Spanish word for a ship's logbook, and that's exactly what it is. Everything I write, record and build lives here, on a domain I own, in files I control. That's not nostalgia; it's a bet. Platforms come and go, feeds bury things, but this stays. Expect essays and working notes, honest reviews of books and tools that changed how I think, papers when something deserves rigor, videos when talking beats typing, and small interactive artifacts when a demo says it better than prose. Yes, I still love a good demo. Old habits.

So why "Mr. Gómez"?

At one of my jobs, names were a minefield. There was already a Krystian, so Cristian was taken. There was also a Chris, so that was out too. Fine, I said, let's go with my initials, CG. My colleague shot back: "No! That's ME!" (Chris G., of course.)

Our manager settled it on the spot: from that day on, I was Mr. Gómez. It stuck in everyone's minds, and eventually to this domain.
